SUBJECT: Hulu causing big media to rethink
DATE: February 8, 2010

This is my summary from a blog off the website internetnews.com. This article is about how Hulu.com is causing big media to rethink free content.

What is Hulu?

Hulu.com is a website that provides viewers with free access to viewing TV shows as well as certain clips from shows in quality definition at anytime and anywhere. Hulu.com was launched to the public in march of 2008.

What could be done?
One option for some of the big media giants that jointly own Hulu.com is to only allow users to view its content if they are paying TV subscribers. This is to make sure people aren’t canceling their TV subscriptions and only watching online for free.

Significance of free online television

If Hulu continues the way it is now, it may keep a casual TV watcher from paying for a TV subscription.

Possible focus group questions:

  • Would you consider canceling your TV subscription knowing that you could watch your favorite shows online?

  • Do you prefer watching TV shows from your computer more than watching them on a television screen?

  • Would you pay to watch shows off an internet site like hulu?
